Pär: "Many years ago, when we had a concert in Stockholm, we were approached at an after party by people from this Swedish development studio of games called Paradox, and some of the guys came and they said that they were big fans of us and they really appreciate the work that we are doing with a music about history and we started to talk about that we are doing pretty much the same thing. In fact, he pressed "record" during the practice and the take was perfect so it ended up on the album. The guitar solo was recored in one take by Thobbe Englund, who was tricked by the producer Peter Tägtgren, who said that he's going to the bathroom and they will record when he gets back, so in the meantime Thobbe can practice the solo.It was inspired by Accept's song "Metal Heart" that used Beethoven's "Für Elise" as the guitar solo. The guitar solo in the song is Bach's "Air on the G String".Also, in German instead of "Not a battle" which the band used, "No battle" ("Keine Schlacht") would be the correct form. It should be " Keine Schlacht, eine Rettungsaktion" since both Schlacht and Rettungsaktion are of female genus in German. The song topic comes from the book "Endgame" by David Strafford which Joakim got from a fan.The band was asked to make theme song for the Hearts of Iron game, but some time later they came across the story of Walter Wenck and it took a while to actually compose the right song for the topic.The song title was inspired by a video game series "Hearts of Iron".The Last Battle: Tells of how a motley group of French prisoners, German defectors, and American soldiers defended Castle Itter against a SS division.
